Spirit of Giorgio Sixto Rossini “the Alpino”, “the Guru” (1933-2020)

Giorgio was a passionate and fascinating cyclist who created the legendary “large Alpine and Pre-Alpine rides between 1981-1985 (Antibes-Thonon-Trieste and Antibes-Thonon-Venice), he also created in 1978 the Grand Tour Chablais formerly known as Le Brevet cyclo-montagnard du Chablais, the Tour of Corsica was set up in 1985 and in 1988, he put together the great crossing of the Alps-Appenin (Vintimille-San Marino) which is yet to be published officially.

He also founded the UIC (Union International Cicloscalatori) in the early 2000. He was a member of the Bigcycling.eu. He is also the writer of the “Directory of Italian Mountain Passes” published by Ediciclo.

Paris-Brest-Paris, Audax, BRA, great Passes of the Pyrénées, Ventoux, many of the Swiss mountain crossings, all the Italian cyclable mountain roads, the Canary Islands… these are only a tiny part of the countless cycling rides achieved by this mountain pass hunter.

Born in 1933 at the foot of the Dolomites, in the province of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, he spent his youth climbing the passes of Italy as a Series A cyclist, wearing the colours of Friuli-Udine VeloClub.
